Sony has announced the Rolly music gadget. Sony's latest digital audio player, Rolly, looks like an egg, plays stereo-quality music, and moves like a professional dancer, or at least a small robot imitating one.
The compact white-colored egg-shaped palm-sized gizmo, combines audio and robotic technologies that allow it to spin, flash lights and move forward and backward.
Rolly offers users a new way of interacting with consumer electronics. It incorporates sensors that identify which way is up, enabling volume to be controlled by turning the player clockwise or counterclockwise and tunes to be switched by pushing or pulling it on the floor.
Rolly only has a power button and a play button. All other functions are done by twisting or rolling the gadget. Rolly can also move to the played music. The small device created surround sound with the two integrated speakers.
Other features of Rolly include 1GB flash memory, Bluetooth, ATRAC and MP3 music file format support and USB. It can store over 600 songs (depending on the songs’ audio quality and length) and the Battery runs for approx. 5 hours of music. It can be set as an alarm clock too. Rolly measures 65mm in diameter, 104mm in length and the weight is approximately 300g.
The Sony Rolly will be available on September 29th in Japan at a price of 40,000 Yen. ($352). There is no information as to when it will be launched in other countries.
