$310,000
Nokia's luxury phone subsidiary, Vertu, crafts its cellphones at a custom workshop hidden away in the English countryside. Models named after famous racetracks -- plans of which are engraved on each of the limited-edition handsets. While some models are a mere $4,000 or so, the Signature models -- studded with real carbon -- can cost up to $310,000. The Cobra is "inspired by 19th century Parisian jeweler Frederic Boucheron." Only eight exist worldwide.
2. Black Diamond
$300,000
Jaren Goh's design will come in a more reasonably priced "White Pearl" model, but it's the dreaming spire of his Black Diamond, at $300,000, that's of interest here. Originally conceived for Sony Ericcson, only five of these are being made.
3. GoldVish
$1.3 million
Designer Emmanuel Gueit's creation is unusually functional as far as super-expensive phones go. Such devices tend to exist solely to look pretty at parties. For a staggering $1.3 million, however, there'd be no excuse to offer anything less. But with a VVS-1 grade diamond to match every bit per second in its Bluetooth data rate, it's hardly an office mainstay.
4. Motorola V220 Special Edition
$57,000
Austrian designer Peter Aloisson is responsible for a family of 18-carat horrors, studded with thousands of diamonds and an invisible patina of irremediable bad taste.
5. Bang & Olufsen Serene
$1,200
A relatively cheap model at only $1,000 or thereabouts, Bang and Olufsen's Serene cell phone nonetheless boasts a none-too-relaxing pricetag. Furthermore, it looks like a cheap, generic powder compact.
