Rajnikanth, Deepika Padukone in Rs 100 crore film Robot

After the stupendous success of Sivaji: The Boss, film director Shankar's Rs 100 crore multi-lingual dream project Robot, a sci-fi movie, is slated to take off with superstar Rajnikanth essaying the lead role.

Shankar, Rajnikanth and musician A R Rahman will once again join hands for the project whose rest of the cast and crew are being finalised. Ayngran International and Eros Multimedia will produce it. The budget for the film is believed to be Rs 100 crore, outdoing Sivaji's Rs 80 crore. Sources in the film industry said the director is still in the process of finalizing the other cast and technicians.

According to sources, Deepika Padukone is being offered a huge sum to star in this Rs 100 crore venture. On the other hand, some people in Bollywood are advicing her against taking up the role because of the age difference between the 22-year-old actress and 57-year-old superstar Rajnikanth.

Another actress being strongly considered for the role is Aishwarya Rai. Ash had been considered for Shankar-Rajni's earlier venture, Sivaji: The Boss as well, but the deal fell through.

"We are trying for someone like Deepika Padukone or Aishwarya to co-star with Rajni. Nothing is official as yet. The film is expected to have a lot of graphics and new techniques. Most of the film would be shot abroad," said a source.

"Robot will be the grand and entertaining film ever made in Indian cinema and will be produced in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi and will be a high-tech film with the use of the state-of-the-art technology".

Robot has been director Shankar's dream project. Shah Rukh Khan had initially come forward to produce it under his banner, Red Chillies Entertainment, and also take on the lead role. But, Khan later backed away from the project. Speculation was also rife that Ajith Kumar, may be roped in by the dirctor as the hero for the film.

However, there is no mention of the date of release as the concept is still in nascent stages.
