Asus Eee PC 4G model has been launched in India at a price of Rs 18,000.
This ultralight laptop is targeted at schoolchildren, housewives, senior citizens, and teenagers – who enjoy simple computing and don’t require the full features of a conventional laptop.
It is based on the Intel mobile CPU (Intel 910 chipset, 900MHz Dothan Pentium M) and has over 40 built-in applications. The other specifications include built-in flash-memory, 512MB DDR2 memory, 300K pixels video camera, and WLAN. However, there is no optical drive, inorder to keep the laptop light weight and ultra compact.
Initially, the Eee PC 4 GB model has been launched in the Mumbai market, and will be made available in other cities in March. For the Indian market, the ASUS Eee PC (normally available with a Linux interface) is being given a special Windows Starter Edition-based GUI.

The Eee PC will be available starting February 2 at Croma stores in Juhu and Malad, as well as at E-zone. It will be available in two colors - Galaxy Black and Pearl White. The first 100 buyers will be entitled to an additional special gift.
HCL had recently launched its MiLeap X series ultra-portable laptops featuring having similar technical specifications as the Asus Eee PC. Asus Eee PC has a 4GB internal flash memory while the HCL leaptop has a 2 GB internal flash memory and no Web cam. HCL MiLeap laptop is priced at Rs 14,000.
