Nokia has started shipping its Nokia N81 and N81 8GB multimedia phones. With special music and gaming keys, these devices are dedicated to those users who are engrossed in either music or gaming.
The N81 8GB uses GSM/WCDMA wireless technology. It has a 2.4" 240 x 320 pixel display that works in landscape and portrait orientations. On the back is a 2 megapixel camera, and the N81 also has WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity which can also be used for gaming. It has a FM radio and runs on the Symbian S60 operating system, making it a capable smartphone.
For the very first time a 3D Multimedia Menu has been integrated in theses devices, marking the first step to bringing a new user interface to the Nokia Nseries range. With this feature, it is easy to discover and enjoy your digital content and the Internet, and share your experiences with others.
N81 users can get access to millions of songs through the Nokia Music Store and listen to them on the phone's built-in music player. The built-in Nokia Music Players help in creating playlists and managing music collections on the move. For advanced sound quality, compatible high-quality headphones or speakers can be used with the standard 3.5mm headphone connector.
A preview of the exciting N-Gage games service is also available in the devices, including playable demos of EA SPORTS FIFA 07, Asphalt 3: Street Rules and Space Impact Light. Once the N-Gage is released this year, the full N-Gage application will be available for download. Users can try games for free and buy the ones they like.
It weighs 140 grams and is 102 x 50 x 17.9mm in size. Talktime is up to 3 hours on 3G and 4 hours on GSM, with a maximum standby time of around 16 days. Alternatively, you can play music on it for up to 11.5 hours.
The N81 8GB is now shipping, along with the standard N81 device, which has a microSD card slot for expandable memory. The N81 costs $500, while the N81 8Gbyte costs $600. Details about its price in India is not available as yet.
