Salman's father, Salim Khan started the trend of bringing of Ganpati idol home around more than a decade back and since then every single member of the family participates in the celebrations that lasts in their house for a day and a half. Not many know that the family of Salman Khan celebrate all festivals, that of Muslims, Hindus and Christians. Salman Khan’s father, Salim Khan is the well known script writer of the famous Salim-Javed duo. Salim’s first wife was a Maharashtrian Hindu named Nadkarni who changed her name to Salma after marriage.
A source close to the Khan family told us, "Salman's youngest sister, Arpita, along with Salim Khan mastermind the celebrations and oversee the decorations, which include a lot of exotic flowers, inside the house during the festival.
“They keep Ganpati for one and half days. And Salman is actively involved. No matter how busy he is, he takes off from his schedule to perform Aarti. He loves the concept of celebrating the Ganesh festival which is like a family event for the entire family. Apart from family all close friends attend ganapati puja at Salman’s place,” revealed his friend.
This year too Salman has taken a leave from his shoot and will be at home for Ganesh puja. He adds “Salman makes a point to be at home during the first two days of Ganesh Festival and if he cannot manage an off day on the first day, he takes an off for the immersion of the Lord Ganesha which takes place at Bandra Bandstand.”
Salman's brothers Arbaaz and Sohail and their respective families enthusiastically participate in the festivities.
Salman Khan has decided to stay off alcohol for an entire month in honour of Ganesh Chaturthi and Ramzan. The next 30 days will see Salman Khan leading a healthy lifestyle. Friends say that Sallu decided to quit as soon as his family brought the Ganpati idol this Ganesh Chaturthi to their home in Galaxy Apartment.
Amongst those scheduled to visit Salman’s house for Ganpati this year from the film industry are Mithun Chakraborty, Govinda, David Dhawan, Sajid-Wajid, Subhash Ghai and Boney Kapoor.
Last year, Salman also participated in the special Puja at the famous Lalbaugcha Raja Ganesh Mandal and donated an undisclosed amount.
