Hitachi has unveiled the world’s first Blu-ray Disc (BD) camcorders.
The DZ-BD7H and DZ-BD70 camcorders are capable of recording one hour of 1920×1080 Full High-Definition video onto a Blu-ray Disc.
The DZ-BD70 is a BD single drive camcorder. It can record around one hour of 1920×1080 full high-definition video (two hours of 1440×1080 high definition video) on a 8cm BD.
The DZ-BD7H has a BD drive and a 30 GB built-in hard disc drive that records around four hours of 1920×1080 full high-definition video, or up to eight hours of 1440×1080 high-definition video.

The Blu-Ray Disc camcorders can also capture still images with 4.3 mega pixel progressive CMOS image sensor. The camcorders come along with the world’s first 8cm BD drive, which can store 5 times more capacity than an 8cm DVD. Both the camcorders feature HDMI and USB 2.0 jacks.
The DZ-BD70 and DZ-BD7H will be available initially in Japan from August 30th at a price of $1,347 and $1,600 respectively.
