Nokia launches 7 new mobile handsets including 'Barracuda'

Nokia has launched 7 new phones. They claim the models are perfect for markets like India and that the phones cater to almost all the basic functions and features relevant to the consumers in these markets.

The new products announced include:
- Nokia 1200 and Nokia 1208: Using new phone-sharing and call-tracking technology, these two new products are aimed at the first-time mobile phone consumer worldwide.
- Nokia 1650 and Nokia 2660: Contemporary phones that combine functionality with attractive design.
- Nokia 2505: The latest phone for entry CDMA markets in Asia/Pacific, Middle East, Africa, China and Latin America.
- Nokia 2630 and 2760: Fashionably-designed phones that convey style and status, combined with Nokia's easy-to-use feature set.

Nokia 1200 and Nokia 1208



















These two phones are basically designed for first time users are targeted at the rural community. A couple of the main features available in these models are the new call-time tracking application that allows providers to set a limit for each call. Once that particular limit is reached the call will end. There's also the multi-phonebook sharing that allows users to maintain a total of 5 separate phone books unique to 5 separate users if need be. The phones are also equipped with one-touch flashlights, localized languages, a seamless keypad that helps protect the phone from dust and a teach mode that works like a set up wizard of sorts, to help the user quickly become accustomed to the features and usage of the device.


















The Nokia 1200 phone has a monochrome screen, while the Nokia 1208 has a color VGA screen. The Nokia 1200 will be available in the second quarter of 2007 with an estimated retail price of approximately Rs. 1960 (35 EUR) and the Nokia 1208 will be available in the third quarter of 2007 and should cost approximately Rs. 2240 (40 EUR).

Nokia 1650


















The 1650 has a traditional candy bar design and may look like your run-off-the mill Nokia phone but it's equipped with features like support of 75 local languages, a flashlight, music-on-the-go via FM radio and MP3-grade ringtones and a function that allows you to set a time limit for each call. The estimated price for the 1650 would be approximately Rs. 3085 (55 EUR), excluding taxes and subsidies.

Nokia 2660





















This model is designed like a flip phone and is equipped with dual screens. It also features GPRS, Bluetooth, an FM radio, MP3 ring tones and a 500-entry phonebook. The 2660 also has an integrated hands free speaker function. Retail price for the 2660 would be approximately Rs. 4770 (85 EUR), excluding taxes and subsidies.

Nokia 2505



















The 2505 is another flip phone but it's specifically released for the CDMA market. It has a smooth back finish that makes it easy to hold and carry around. It has a 65K color display and comes with pre-loaded games, ringtones and wallpapers and you can also download new ones if you prefer. It also has the basic features like text messaging, speakerphone, calendar, a personalized voice reminder and an alarm clock. The 2505 also has a 300-contact phonebook and it claims to be capable of providing around 3 hours of talk time and 156 hours of stand-by time. The price has not been disclosed but the model should be available in the second quarter of 2007.

Nokia 2630




















This is Nokia's thinnest phone yet is also called the 'Barracuda'. It's just 9.9 mm. The 2630 is equipped with an easy-to-use camera and Bluetooth for easy transferring of data from the phone to any other supported device even printers. The phone is also ready for email connectivity and sending MMS. Aside from that it does have the basic features again like a calendar and a calculator. From the media angle the 2630 is equipped with an FM radio with a dedicated key and it supports MP3 ringtones. The estimated price for the Nokia 2630 will be around Rs. 4770 (85 EUR), excluding taxes and subsidies and will be available in the third quarter of 2007.

Nokia 2760




















The 2760 is equipped with a digital camera with video recording capabilities and Bluetooth for data transfer. The phone also supports video playback and has an FM radio. It even supports GPRS. The 2760 has enough of space to save up to 1000 contacts and a large capacity for storing SMS messages as well.

The Nokia 2760 will be available in the third quarter of 2007. The estimated price for the Nokia 2760 is approximately Rs. 5050 (90 EUR), excluding taxes and subsidies.
