Bollywood stars Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor exchanged vows in the presence of a maulvi at a quiet ceremony in Saif's new house in Bandra, away from the glare of the media, at 12:30 PM Wednesday, February 6. Sources had said that Saif’s mother Sharmila Tagore had been witness to the nikaah.
Saif, who has reportedly given Kareena a BMW as wedding gift, denied the marriage took place and his mother, actress Sharmila Tagore appeared surprised when quizzed by the media which broke the story.
"I have no idea," she said. "When he married Amrita Singh, he didn't inform. I don't think he would do the same thing again," she added.
Saif had married first wife and mother of his two children, Amrita Singh, in a secret ceremony in October 1991.
Saif, 37, is twelve years younger than Amrita Singh and is ten years older than Kareena Kapoor.
Saif's astrologer Pandit Suvashitraj, who had earlier confirmed that Saif had given Kareena a diamond ring, also hinted that the Nikah may have taken place.
"Yes, I have heard that Saif and Kareena solemnized their relationship with a formal exchange of rings in the presence of a maulavi on Wednesday. The ceremony took place at 12.30 p.m. This is what is known as vachan vivaah," Suvashitraj said.
Meanwhile, industry sources insisted that a wedding had taken place. They said that the Khan family had witnessed the nikaah, but the Kapoor family has been kept out of it.
Kareena and Saif had begun a relationship six months ago on the sets of Tashan. Saif had got Kareena’s name tattooed in Devnagri language, on his arm at Hakim’s Alim in Bandra. The tattoo was reportedly done in indelible ink.
Friends of the couple say Saif has never been more committed in a relationship. A close friend of Saif had recently said, "There's a fierce and single-minded determination in Saif to make this relationship work for keeps. And, it isn’t a defiant determination to disprove the cynics who say it won’t last. Saif doesn’t give a damn about what people say."
The friend further added, "Earlier, after Rosa left, there were whispers of Saif being involved with various ladies. Saif doesn’t like the image of a casanova at all. He thinks he’s too grown up for it. He wants stability in his life and a relationship that’s for keeps. He believes he has found it in Kareena. Saif will make this relationship work."
Apparently, both of them spend as much time together as possible. Lately, Kareena has also been seen in public with Saif’s kids.
