Robot which is budgeted for Rs 130 crores will be made simultaneously in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi and is said to go on floors in April ’08. The film is expected to be very heavy on FX.
When the film was announced, numerous speculations were doing the rounds as regards Rajini’s heroine. Trisha, Shriya, and Nayanthara were said to be in the fray. Also, there was speculation that the role would go to model turned actress Deepika Padukone who recently bagged the Star Screen award for 'most promising newcomer' and the Stardust 'Superstar of Tomorrow' award for her debut performance in Om Shanti Om. But director Shankar managed to rope in the former Miss World for this prestigious project.
Aishwary Rai has been booked for a mind boggling Rs. 6 crores for this film. She is currently demanding 2 crores in Bollywood and 4 crores in Hollywood. After the Robot deal, Aishwarya Rai becomes the highest paid actress in the entire Indian film industry.
Shankar visited Mumbai in the first week of January to discuss the script with Aishwarya.
"Aishwarya has gone through the script before joining Abhishek who is shooting for Dilli 6 in Rajasthan" says a source. The official contract of the film has been approved by Amitabh Bachchan himself after altering few clauses and signed by Aishwarya.
The film is being produced with the backing of Hollywood giant Sony Pictures who entered the Indian market with Saawariya.
Rajnikanth will play a scientist who creates a robot for his physically challenged child to play with. However, things go awry and the robot begins to kill people forcing Rajnikanth to terminate his state-of-the-art invention.
