LG KC1 WiMAX WiBro smartphone

LG Korea has launched the KC1 handset which features WiBro connectivity, one of the few phones on Earth with 4G wireless access. The phone runs on WiMAX-compatible WiBro network to deliver speeds approaching Wi-Fi across a wide area.

WiBro is the name for mobile Wi-Max although it has a much shorter range at 1.5 kms per base station with an aggregate data throughput of 30 to 50 Mbit/s. Such added speed lets LG build in previously impossible features such as remote PC control and encourages video calls or other features that were only just feasible with 3G.

The phone is powered by Marvell Monahans CPU at 800 Mhz and runs on theWindows Mobile ver 5.0 OS. The KC1 has a 2.8 inch touchscreen LCD, Bluetooth, SD card slot and T-DMB receiver for watching digital TV on the move.

It has a memory of 512MB, built-in Li-Ion 1320mAh Rechargeable Battery, mono speaker and 24Pin Connector (5V, USB 1.1, UART), 10pin Connector (Audio) interface. It also has 2 megapixel camera, 28 ROM and 64MB RAM. With PDA function, KC1 enables user to access internet function on the device with easy and at low cost.

The LG-KC1 is currently available in Korea only for $750 (approx. Rs. 30,000). India is yet to launch 3G networks so it will be some time before a 4G phone will be available here!!!

World's First Blu-ray Camcorders from Hitachi

Hitachi has unveiled the world’s first Blu-ray Disc (BD) camcorders.
















The DZ-BD7H and DZ-BD70 camcorders are capable of recording one hour of 1920×1080 Full High-Definition video onto a Blu-ray Disc.















The DZ-BD70 is a BD single drive camcorder. It can record around one hour of 1920×1080 full high-definition video (two hours of 1440×1080 high definition video) on a 8cm BD.













The DZ-BD7H has a BD drive and a 30 GB built-in hard disc drive that records around four hours of 1920×1080 full high-definition video, or up to eight hours of 1440×1080 high-definition video.

The Blu-Ray Disc camcorders can also capture still images with 4.3 mega pixel progressive CMOS image sensor. The camcorders come along with the world’s first 8cm BD drive, which can store 5 times more capacity than an 8cm DVD. Both the camcorders feature HDMI and USB 2.0 jacks.

The DZ-BD70 and DZ-BD7H will be available initially in Japan from August 30th at a price of $1,347 and $1,600 respectively.

Mother of the year

In a zoo in California , a mother tiger gave birth to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs. Unfortunately, due to complications in the pregnancy, the cubs were born prematurely and due to their tiny size, they died shortly after birth.

The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery, suddenly started to decline in health, although physically she was fine. The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter had caused the tigress to fall into a depression. The doctors decided that if the tigress could surrogate another mother's cubs, perhaps she would improve.

After checking with many other zoos across the country, the depressing news was that there were no tiger cubs of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother. The veterinarians decided to try something that had never been tried in a zoo environment.

Sometimes a mother of one species will take on the care of a different species. The only orphans" that could be found quickly, were a litter of weaner pigs. The zoo keepers and vets wrapped the piglets in tiger skin and placed the babies around the mother tiger.

Would they become cubs or pork chops?????????????

Samsung Dual Mode mobile phone launched with Tata Indicom

Tata Indicom and Samsung have launched Samsung Duo, the dual mode handset supporting GSM and CDMA technology. Users can use two GSM or two CDMA or one of each sim cards in one handset.

The Duo handset is a slider phone having a 2.2-inch hybrid TFT display. It has a 1.3 megapixel camera with 10X digital zoom and video recording. This phone is a business phone supporting document files in excel, word and PDF formats. The phone has three input options: ABCD keyboard or a normal mobile phone keypad and handwriting recognition software which allows the user to jot something on it.

The phone also has an MP3/AAC+ player supporting video in MPEG4, but there’s no radio. It has 10MB of internal memory and can support up to 1GB of external memory. The phone also supports Bluetooth with A2DP compatibility, but it doesn’t support WAP when using a GSM provider.

It also has an Indian calendar bundled with it, which lists all the festivals, dates and important occasions. Additionally it has a Panchang featuring auspicious/inauspicious times during a day.

The Duo has been launched in Mumbai at a price of Rs. 11,999, excluding the Indicom Sim card.

Spice Dual Mode mobile phone launched

Spice Mobile has launched dual-mode handsets, the D-88 and the D-80 that supports both GSM as well CDMA based mobile connections.

The innovative feature about the new D-88 phone is that it supports GSM and CDMA active connections at the same time. On the other hand the D-80 supports two GSM active connections. Switching from one connection to the other is as easy as just pressing a button. Thus, this phone is suitable for travelers operating in the local area.

The new phone is targeted to all who have two cell phone numbers and have been looking for a convenience of carrying just one phone, we are targetting mainly the consumers of town and rural areas.

The Spice Dual handset has a sleek and slim body with a 2,62,000 TFT and a 2-inch vibrant color screen, a 1.3 mega pixel camera that is capable of capturing high quality images. This phone provides four operation modes namely GSM and CDMA dual; CDMA and GSM dual; CDMA only and GSM only. It also has a special integrated music and video player and video recording and playback. The D-80 handset will be available in the Indian market at Rs. 9,849/-, while the price of the D-88 has not been announced yet.

The company is also planning to launch a 'people's phone' which will cost less than Rs 1,000 and start manufacturing these low-cost handsets in 2008.

Google Phone

Some magazines have reported on Google's plans for entering the cellphone business. Google has research and development resources dedicated to mobile phone technology, but the question has always been: will Google strike out on its own, or will it embrace partners in its quest to tackle the mobile world? Will it make its own phone, or just a set of applications and recommendations?

Google is believed to have spent "hundreds of millions of dollars" on its mobile phone project. Google has multiple phone prototypes and envisions a day in which mobile phones will be ad-supported thanks to services such as those Google provides.

Google has "developed prototype handsets" that feature powerful versions of its applications, and it has approached several wireless operators in the U.S. and Europe in recent months, including AT&T, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless, to bring these devices to market. T-Mobile, appears to be farthest along in developing these plans.

The company is working on its own devices, but is also working on a set of technical specifications and applications to be shared by multiple mobile devices. Google will allow manufacturers to use their prototype designs or make their own. Google's chief interest, clearly, is getting its applications on phones. Mobile device versions of Google Maps, Google Talk, and even Gmail are already popular, and the company is working on a web browser as well.

At its Boston office, Google is "working on a sophisticated new Web browser for cell phones. Google has recommended that manufacturers build phones with a host of technology to support its apps - a camera, Wi-Fi, 3G networking, and GPS.

People who have seen Google's prototype devices say they aren't as revolutionary as the iPhone. One was likened to a slim Nokia Corp. phone with a keyboard that slides out. Another phone format presented by Google looked more like a Treo or a BlackBerry.

It's not clear which manufacturers might build Google wireless devices, though people familiar with the project say LG Electronics Co. of South Korea is one company that has held talks with Google. Google has already lined up a series of hardware component and software partners and signaled to carriers that it's open to various degrees of cooperation on their part. The Google brand has yet to appear on a significant piece of consumer hardware.
