Motorola unveils RAZR2 smart phone & ROKR Z6 music phone

Motorola RAZR2

Motorola Inc. today announced the next-generation RAZR phone today, called RAZR2. It is a slimmer second-generation device, reduced in size by 2 millimeters from the original, best-selling RAZR.

The RAZR2 ships in July, shortly after Apple Inc. is scheduled to release the iPhone in late June. Pricing and terms with particular network providers were not announced. Many analysts have been urging Motorola to provide an update of the RAZR, which has sold 98 million units.

RAZR2 measures 103 by 53 by 11.9 millimeters. It will ship in three versions for three separate wireless networks: 3G HSDPA, EVDO/CDMA and GSM, Motorola said. Some versions will run Linux/JavaTM5. It ships with up to 2GB of memory for handling Web browsing and real-time video and songs.

It includes a 500Mhz processor, a full 10 times faster than the original RAZR, Motorola said. It includes an external 2-in. phone display and an internal 2.2-in. display.

Motorola ROKR Z6

Motorola also announced its new ROKR brand of music-optimized headsets and handsets, highlighted by the powerful ROKR Z6, which is expected to hit stores in May. The company also announced a unique marketing agreement with Napster to give music fans even easier access to millions of songs on the go.

Motorola’s ROKR devices unite Motorola’s iconic style, with full MP3 player capabilities, and the seamless capability of a high-quality operating system. Inside the clean lines of the ROKR Z6 is a Linux/Java music phone with Windows Media technologies, including Windows Media Audio (WMA) Windows Media DRM 10, and media transfer protocol (MTP). The ROKR Z6 lets consumers “plug and play” with any personal computer running Windows Media Player 10 or 11. With fast PC direct connectivity via High Speed USB 2.0, the Z6 lets you access music you want simply and seamlessly.

The slim slider ROKR Z6 music handset enables easy transition from phone to music and back again, the ROKR Z6 allows one-touch access to your library and pauses music as calls come through.

A touch of finger on the 4-way navigation wheel gives immediate access to content. High Speed USB 2.0 allows to side-load songs in 2-3 seconds, almost five times faster than a competitive music phone: that’s a 500 song library in 15 minutes, instead of 2 hours. Synch purchased music from over 200 music stores, including Napster, onto the device from your PC; or side-load tunes from over 200 music stores worldwide - an advantage over most other devices.

The Z6 makes it easy to find and manage songs using Windows Media Player on the PC, which supports playlists, album art, search by genre, artist and more. It even answers calls while you transfer. The ROKR Z6 works right out of the box; Windows Media Player automatically recognizes the device.

With the external memory slot, load up 2GB microSD cards with your music collection; each holds approximately 1,000 songs and 70 hours of music1 2. Battery can last more than 10 hours of music listening in airplane mode.

The ROKR Z6 also features stereo Bluetooth wireless technology, enabling users to enjoy a wireless mobile stereo experience on the go with compatible Bluetooth-enabled stereo headphones such as the ROKR S9 wrap-around headset3, another recent addition to the ROKR family. The amazing one-ounce S9 provides a tangle-free way to groove to tunes and dance to the music without ever missing a call.

ROKR Z6 will be on sale in Asian markets starting in May.

Lindsay Lohan tops Maxim's 'Hot 100'

According to Maxim magazine, at least this month, she's the hottest woman in the world.

The "Georgia Rule" actress-troublemaker tops the magazine's eighth annual "Hot 100" list, a ranking by editors weighing buzz and beauty for women in film, TV, music, sports and fashion.

"There is no other star in the world who causes more of a stir in the public eye than Lindsay," said Maxim Editor in Chief Jimmy Jellinek in a statement. "Her every move is watched and reported on."

Not surprisingly, Jellinek described his young, male readership as being "obsessed" with the 20-year-old Lohan, a ubiquitous party girl who spent the weekend soaking up the sun (with a new boyfriend) in the Bahamas.

Jessica Alba had to settle with the No. 2 on the list, which is in the magazine hitting stands Saturday. She's followed, in order, by Scarlett Johansson, Christina Aguilera, Jessica Biel, Ali Larter, Eva Mendes, Rihanna, Eva Longoria, Fergie, Sienna Miller, Angelina Jolie, Beyonce Knowles and Katherine Heigl.

Celebrity sisters Ashlee and Jessica Simpson are on the list at No. 16 and No. 41, respectively. Ashley Olsen, half of the mogul acting twins, placed 37th, while sister Mary-Kate didn't make the cut.

Sony introduces world's first 12.1 Megapixel digital camera

Sony has launched the world's first 12.1-megapixel compact digital camera, the Cybershot DSC-W200.

The DSC-W200 combines an amazing detail of 12.1-megapixel resolution with high sensitivity for shooting without a flash even in very low light. It has advanced high-tech features like Face Detection, D-range optimization, in-camera retouching, and red-eye reduction, along with Super SteadyShot image stabilization that keeps blur to a minimum. And for shooting and sharing on location, it has a large 2.5-inch LCD screen that makes viewing exceptionally easy.

With a compact Silver Aluminium body, the camera also has high definition (HD) output for displaying still images on HDTV screens, optical viewfinder, and Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 3x optical zoom lens.

The DSC-W200, which has more megapixels than most digital cameras, is able to capture greater image definition to enable big prints and tight crops without losing sight of detail. The advanced Super Hole Accumulated Diode (HAD) CCD design allows more light to pass through each pixel, thus increasing sensitivity and reducing noise.

Other key features include: Sony Bionz processor for improved picture quality and high-speed operation; DRO technology for automatic contrast and exposure correction; HD slideshow with music for playback on camera LCD screen or HDTV; up to 300 shots with LCD screen on; MPEG Movie VX (VGA 30fps movie mode with audio); PictBridge for direct connection to printer without need for PC; and 31MB of internal memory.

The camera has an on-screen function guide, along with an on-screen menu in choice of 17 languages, including Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, and Turkish.

Included with the camera are a rechargeable battery, charger, AV and USB cables, wrist strap, and is compatible with a wide range of optional Sony accessories.

Meanwhile, the DSC-W200 will be available within a month's time in India through Sony branded stores, and will likely carry a price tag of Rs 17,000 approximately.
